Mavic Razor Shoe - Men's Review
This is my first bike shoe. The reviews I read on another site claimed two things: they're the most comfortable bike shoe ever and the ratchet clasp breaks easily. Only the first is true in my experience.I have worn them before and after riding - in fact I wear them on my drive to the MTB park. The toe is slightly flexible which makes walking comfortable. They don't feel like wooden clogs. The fit is perfect. Unlike some other bike shoes, the size I ordered is the size I received. 11-1/2 means 11-1/2. They don't tell you to size it down or up because they're properly sized.
I haven't had any trouble at all with the clasp. I rarely use the ratchet as I prefer to just push the plastic tie into place. It easily clicks in place and I only touch the hasp to unlock it to take off the shoes.
The cleat attachment is good (as its my first bike shoe I have nothing to compare against) but the cleats don't slip at all - they're nice and tight. The soles are very hard. I suppose they'll wear longer that way, but they slip a little on my cheap platform pedals. I just bought some crank bros mallets which have fairly sharp replaceable lugs so that should alleviate the slipping.
Lastly, out of the 3 or 4 bike shoes I considered before buying these - this was the only one with a hard rubber toe protection. Very important for me because I ride like a bulldozer and plow my feet and/or pedals into every friggin rock and root on the trail. Its a shoe (and toe) saver.
Overall, I'm very happy with the shoes.
