Cleatskins ProBikeskins Bicycle Shoe Cleat Cover Set Review

I bought this product hoping for the best and it has produced...somewhat.
For what it needs to do...keep dirt out of your road pedal cleat...it does it...for the most part.
For the record: I use a U.S. size 11 or bike shoe 45 Exustar carbon fiber on Speedplay X-5 pedals.
My situation: I ride about 8-16 hrs per week in a rural area on all pavement but my house is in a sandy (sometimes muddy) area so I have to walk about 35 yards to the pavement.
That is why I bought these--to keep dirt and mud out of my speedplay cleats.
They WILL work IF you are willing to give them some extra attention.
Issue 1) They are not as tight as they might appear. I wear size 45 bike shoes and as shown on the Cleatskins Web site the back loop should snug against the back side of the shoe when on the bike. This will not happen unless you carefully--really carefully-- place it. And that is not practical. I had to craft a metal hook from a cut cotter pin and glue it to the back of my shoes for a practical, easy hook. The Web site also shows looping the front rubber strap between the 1st and 2nd Velcro loop on your road shoes. To get a (sorta reliable) cleat covering, I had to move to a placing above the second loop (note my front/back references are top perspective and saddle mounted).
Issue 2) They may become easily loose. Walking may un-cover your cleat even after just a few steps if the straps are not evenly placed and tensioned. Getting this right can be very irritating at times.
Conclusion: Yes, there are issues with this product but to accomplish its aim--keeping dirt and mud out of your road cleats--I can't imagine something better.
*UPDATE* After about a month's worth of rides, I decided to stop using these. For my situation of just needing them at the beginning and end of the ride, it is easier for me to simply wear sandals out to the pavement and then don the shoes, hanging the sandals on the fence.
This is not to say this product is bad or worthless but for my situation they created as many problems as they solved. I will take and use them if I ever need to walk into a store while on a ride, etc. 3 and 1/2 stars.
