Pearl iZUMi P.R.O. Sock Review
I've been using these socks for the past 1-2 years. Best sock I've ever owned. I thought I'd better get some more since the colors, and possibly the design, might have changed with the new version.Here's the story. I bought 1 pair from Bicyclebuys.com, 2 pair from Amazon, and 2 pair from ediscountbike.com. The only pair that was identical to my original socks was the pair from Bicyclebuys.com. I don't recall where I purchased my original PI P.R.O. socks. But I know the materials and fit are the same as the socks from Bicyclebuys.
Looking at the tags tells the story. The Bicyclebuys socks are 45% Olefin, 42% Nylon, 8% Polyester, 5% Spandex, and made in China. The other 4 pair from Amazon and eDiscountbike are 51% Olefin, 43% Nylon, 2% Spandex, 4% other fibers, and made in USA.
As the first reviewer indicated. The Amazon socks do not have as much elasticity as the originals. It makes sense, 2% Spandex vs 5%. Pulling the sock over your heel is more difficult. The originals, with the extra Spandex, seem to support the entire foot without feeling tight. The made in the USA socks feel tight. Infact, with the Chinese sock I think you could go a size smaller. With the USA sock, I'm wondering how they will fit after washing?? The heel and forefoot seem to have the same amount of cushioning.
Bottom line, sorry to say. If you can find the Made in China Pearl Izumi P.R.O. sock. Go for it! Great sock. The Made in USA socks are not as good. YMMV.
