Salomon Men's XA PRO 3D MID GTX Trail Runner Review

Overall, these are pretty good hikers: very light, very comfortable, waterproof, flexible, easy on -- easy off (with draw laces and storage for them). My only gripe with them though, is that they don't have great traction on slippery surfaces. My theory on this is that it is because the design of the sole doesn't have enough surface at the lowest point, so when on flat slippery surfaces they don't have great grip. I should add though, that I've seen this on many very highly rated hikers too. It is also probably partly a property of the material. My old Doc Martens had great traction, and that is something I've not been able to match with hikers so far--those had large waffle design and especially grippy material.
However, given the comfort and other qualities I mentioned, I still think these are a really good buy, hence the 4 stars.
